The sitting commenced with recitation from the Holy Qur’an and its Urdu translation, followed by Naat-e-Rasool-e-Maqbool ﷺ.

Mr Bilal Yasin, Minister for Food, moved a motion for suspension of relevant rules for taking up Government Business on Tuesday, being the Private Members’ Day. The motion was carried.

General discussion on Wheat Procurement continued for the second day. After the speech by Mr Amjad Ali Javed, Mr Bilal Yasin, Minister for Food, gave policy statement and apprised the House that main hurdle in wheat procurement is the importing of wheat. In this connection, a Fact Finding Committee has been constituted for fixing the liability. The Food department only procures 10%-12% of wheat only to support the price and remaining is procured by private sector. He also stated that increase in the amount of wheat procurement leads to expensive loans and increased expenditures on storing. He also commented on department’s performance and informed the House regarding strict steps taken in scrutinizing applications for wheat procurement. He further assured the House that he would advocate to resolve the issue of procurement in the guidelines of the House.
