Personal Career & Interests

Makhdum Syed Murtaza Mehmud son of Makhdum Syed Ahmed Mehmud was born on April 19, 1985 and is BA(Hons) in Economics. An agriculturist, who has remained Member, Provincial Assembly of the Punjab during 2012-13 and has returned to the Punjab Assembly in general elections 2013. He has visited UK, Germany, UAE, India and Saudi Arabia. He comes from a renowned political family. His father has remained Member of Punjab Assembly during 1985-88, 1988-90 and 2008-12; and has served as Minister for E&T during 1988-90; as Governor of the Punjab during 2012-13; and as MNA during 1990-93, 1993-96, 1997-99 and also functioned as Minister of State. His paternal uncle, Makhdoom Syed Ali Akbar Mehmood has served as Member of Punjab Assembly for four consecutive terms during 1988-99 and is a sitting MPA from PP-292. His brother, Makhdoom Syed Mustafa Mehmud is a sitting MNA. His great-grandfather, (late) Makhdoom Ul Mulk Syed Ghulam Miran Shah was an eminent personality of former Bahawalpur State who actively participated in the Pakistan Movement before partition and was appointed as Minister for Refugees and Rehabilitation by the Amir of Bahawalpur and was awarded the title of “Makhdoom Ul Mulk” in recognition of his meritorious services. His grandfather, Makhdoom Syed Hassan Mehmud served as Chief Minister of Bahawalpur State as well as the Minister for Education and Health; as Member of the Constituent Assembly of Pakistan during 1951; as Member of Provincial Assembly of West Pakistan during 1956-58 and served as Minister for Information, Local Government and Social Welfare; and as Leader of the Opposition in Punjab Assembly during 1986. Former Prime Minister of Pakistan and Speaker National Assembly, Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani is his uncle.
